In a nutshell, it was always about words -- I have been in love with language for all of memory. I received a BA in Secondary English Education while also pursuing theater, then built on my enthusiasm for words by working in libraries and bookstores, and teaching high school English.
What writers do is a sort of alchemy; that they can create characters and convey an idea or event onto paper such that I can experience it -- however many miles or generations away -- fascinates me. I have focused my career on communicating those concepts and stories into audio with empathy, humor, fervor and exuberance, so even more people can have those experiences. Quirky Tidbits and Special Knowledge:
I put in hours at both a jewelry store and a lumberyard (concurrently) to work my way through college. There aren't as many wardrobe differences as you might think.
When I was 10 my family moved to a house with no bathroom. We did have an outhouse, though. Let me tell you, at 2am in February when it's 8 degrees F, you can have very long debates with yourself about how badly you need to go.
My babysitter was a granny who thought there were "certain things young ladies should know how to do." The housekeeping lessons never did take, alas . . . but the embroidery and crochet and sewing lessons have become lifelong avocations, and I've built on those to add knitting and rugmaking to the mix.
Speaking of avocations, I'm slooooowly trying to turn our postage-stamp-sized backyard into a permaculture garden, complete with a mini food forest.
I like to cook the results into delicious Whole-Foods, Plant-based (Vegan) meals.
I was an only child until I was 12. My "baby" brother is one of the best people ever.
My sophomore year of high school I developed a crush on this boy. I chased him for a year and a half before his parents let him date. We dated almost 5 years before we got married. We're still married "mumble-mumble" years later and you know what? I still have a crush on that boy. Guess that's a definition of Romance, right there.
Cats.
That's all, just cats.
(Though I love dogs and bunnies and all those, too. I just share my house with cats . . . and watch the big ones at the sanctuary sleeping for hours . . . and so on . . .)
